STOREY Family History
This long-established surname is English, but of pre 7th century Danish-Viking origins. It derives from the word "storr", meaning large, which was used both to denote someone of strong build, and also a keeper of oxen (cattle). The personal bynames as Stori and Estori, are recorded in the famous Domesday Book of 1086. Early examples of the surname recordings include: John Stor in the charters known as the Calendar of Letter Books for the city of London, and dated 1290, whilst Thomas Storre, appears in the Poll Tax returns for Yorkshire in 1379. The surname is recorded in many forms including Stor, Storr, Store, Storey, Storry, Storie and Storrie, and is particularly well recorded in the church registers of Yorkshire...Select Audience

Good morning,
I've been looking into family histories, and I'm trying to track down where my mother's father's family came from. His name was Reece Storey (1923-2013, Idaho), his father was James Oscar Storey( ??-1941, Idaho), and his father was Robert Storey (1846-1935, born in Pennsylvania, died in Idaho). Prior to that it gets hazy. From some suggestions I found that a James Storey (1811-1888, Pennsylvania) may have been the father of Robert. I'm not certain, but it seems like James is the son of a James and Hannah Storey of Pennsylvania. The elder James' father was Alexander Storey. James' record says he was born in Letterkenny, Ireland, and Alexander's says he was born in Donegal, Ireland, and Alexander, James, and James' wife Hannah Baird, came to the States.
