PARR Family History
This interesting and unusual name has three possible sources. Firstly, it may be of Anglo-Saxon origin, and locational from Parr in Lancashire, recorded as "Par" in the Assize Court Rolls of 1246, coming from the Olde English pre 7th Century word "pearr", enclosure; hence, "dweller at the enclosure". The name may also be from the Middle Low German "parre", parish, district, perhaps a nickname for a foundling. Finally, the name may be the Anglicized version of the Old French personal name "Perre" or "Pierre", Peter. The surname itself first appears in the late 13th Century (see below), and other early recordings include: Margeria Perre, who was recorded in the 1327 Subsidy Rolls of Suffolk; Henry de Par, who was mentioned in 1284, in the Assize Court Rolls of Lancashire; and Richard del Par, who was listed in the Letter Books of London in 1356...Select Audience

Alexander James Parr
My great grandfather immigrated to NZ in 1864. His father was a stone mason at Bingham at that time.
Parr
Not sure on how far back our history of the parrs go, my father reckons we used to have an old parchment that links us back to Katharine parr but it was lost in a family disagreement. We certainly had money once upon a time. We have traced back my maternal line of the greys who married into the parr family and they lived on an estate on the outskirts of Louth. My great etc grandmother married Charles Gordon who led the siege of Khartoum and promptly died leaving her considerably richer. At some point they married into the parrs, sold up and moved to a large farm in Hereford and 2 generations later I have moved back to Lincoln. Both estates have lost the associated buildings etc and only walls and a rectory exist, prior to moving to Lincolnshire Iโd never come across another part but have bumped into several up here suggesting Lincolnshire is a hot spot for Parrs!
