MCKEE Family History
This interesting surname is a form of the early Gaelic (Scottish and Irish) patronymic "Mac Aodh". The personal name "Aodh" meaning "fire" was originally the name of a pagan god, but this does not seem to have halted the popularity of this surname. In the modern idiom Mac Aodh has at least fifteen spelling forms including McKay, McKee, Kee, McCay, McCoy, McEa, and McAy. The form MacKee is widespread in North East Ulster, and especially in Counties Antrim, Down and Armagh, with the short form as Kee being most numerous in County Donegal in the Republic of Ireland. Early examples of the surname recordings include George McKe of Myretoun was mentioned in the Register of the Privy Seal, for Scotland, in 1538, and Sir Patrick MacKee who was a prominent County Donegal "servitor" at the Plantation of Ulster in 1641...Select Audience

Wes McKee
Hello. I've traced my McKee line back to the early 1600s. The first to make it to the US was Alexander McKee (b1665) with son Thomas, and grandson Alexander. They were fur traders at first, and opened a trading post at what is now known as McKees falls in Pennsylvania. From there they settled in Rutherford Tennessee for a bit, and then on to Springfield MO in the mid 1800s.

Hello all. I am the 3rd Great Grandson of Marcus Lafayette McKee B. 1864 Springfield Missouri. D. 1927 Tulare CA. It is believed he was the son of Martha Simms and John McKee, yet I can find no proof or documentation as to why people have come to this conclusion. I can find no Birth records and no documentation on him until he is an adult and living in Tulare. After that, lots of docs. The name is unique and I have found several McKees with the same name with most being from Canada. Anyone have any info?

My father was Robert McKee, born. October 25, 1929 in Ottumwa, Iowa, the eldest son of Frederick Albert and Mary Frances (Breen) McKee. Fred was born in 1903 in Creston, IA to William McKee. William's father, James Sloan McKee was born in 1832 and christened in Donegore Parish in County Antrim, Ireland. He emigrated to America in 1857 and enlisted in the 11th Illinois Cavalry in the Union Army. After being honorably discharged in December 1865, he became an American citizen in 1867 ans settled on a farm outside of Creston, IA.
James's father, Samuel McKee, was born in 1811 and christened in the same church. It is prior to 1811 I run into a roadblock.

My dad was Robert Howard McKee, born in Whitefish, MT. His father was Howard (born Marion) McKee, born in SD; and his mother was Mabel Minnie Maxwell McKee, born in NJ. Both Howard and Mabel's parents were born in Ireland, but I don't know their names or any other family history. Can you help me find my ancestors?
