FINN Family History
This is an anglicized form of an Olde Gaelic name O'Finn. The Gaelic prefix "O" means "grandson" or "male descendant (of)" and the personal name , Finn, deriving from "fionn" meaning "fair (haired)". There were three main O'Finn clans in Ireland. The first belonged to Co. Sligo where their chiefs held sway over the lands of Calry on the shore of Laigh Gill. The Co. Sligo place name, Coolavin (in Irish Cuil O'bhFinn) means "the refuge place of the O'Finns". A second sept held church lands and property in Kilcolgan, Co. Galway and the third sept belonged to the ancient territory of Oriel (Counties Armagh and Monaghan)...Select Audience

My grandfather, William John Finn, b. 31 May 1981 in Everett, MA, USA, was a singer in Vaudeville and the radio. He entertained under the name "The Singing Fireman of Boston" in the US. His wife was named Annette Christina Schrader, b. 1890 in Vicksburg, MS. She accompanied "Bill" on the piano. She was a ragtime piano player. After Bill died in 1963, Annette went on to entertain veterans in nursing homes and veteran's groups in Boston, MA until she died in 1977 in Arlington, MA, USA . Bill and Annette had six children. Five of them also entertained on the radio as children. They were called "The Five Little Finns". My mother, Lillian, was one of the five.

My 4th Great Grandfather was named William Finn and he was born before 1806. His son was also named William (Gulielmas) Finn and he was born about 1806 in Clonmel, County Tipperary, Ireland. He died between 1851 and 1865. He owned a grocery store and pub at 57 Main St., now called O'Connell St. It is now a music store and dental repair shop. His wife was Catherine Kiely, born 1815 in Clonmel and died 03 Sep 1885 in Everett, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA. The family came to America on the ship Plymouth Rock on 18 Sept 1851. I am interested in working my family back in time and was hoping you could help me.

He came to Australia in 1836 with his wife Jane and son Dennis on the St Vincent, his son Patrick was also sent to Australia in 1836 on the Earl Grey. My Uncle Dennis Finn has had his DNA done a couple of mths ago and his DNA group is A-260. I was told that this is primarily the native Irish in the kingdom of Breifne, which is now Leitrim and Cavan in Ireland. Hope someone can help.
