CONNER Family History
It is common outside Ireland for the clan name O' Connor to lose its Gaelic identity and to be found spelt as Conor, Connor, Connors, Connar and Conner, but all are originally descendants of "Conchobhair". Historically the clan is the most famous of the Irish, representing the last true Irish Monarchy. The name translates as "The descendant of hound - desire", a Viking type compound of the pre 8th Century when Ireland was invaded by the Norsemen. The clan O' Connor has six distinct septs, originally from Connacht, the largest sept is now in Munster (County Kerry).Select Audience

Conner
John Conner (possibly Connor)
BIRTH 3 MAR 1741 โข Eastel, Castlepollard, Westmeath, Ireland.
DEATH 28 MAR 1813 โข Scotchtown, Orange County, New York. Itโs believed that John Conner was a soldier in Americaโs Revolutionary War.
He married Margaret McCutchens, abt. 1762 in Ireland. They had 2 children named Charles Connor b. 14 March 1763 and Robert Connor b. 13 November 1765. Margaret died before 1767, before John came to America. What became of Charles and Robert Conner is unknown, but if they came to America with their father, they would have been very young; four and two years old respectively.
He came to America in 1767 and was a farmer. He married, June 12, 1767, Hannah Denn, daughter of William and Phebe Denn, born Orange County, New York, April 25, 1750, died August 25, 1829.
From the Genealogical and family history of southern New York and the Hudson River Valley: a record of the achievements of her people in the making of a commonwealth and the building of a nation, by Cuyer Reynolds, published in 1914, says on page 991, โJohn Conner, the first member of this family (in America), was born at Castle Pollard, county of West Meath, Ireland, in 1741, and died in Orange County, New York, in August, 1813.โ

Ed Haynor
John Conner/Connor was likely born in 1741 at Castlepollard, County of Westmeath, Ireland, as written in an undated letter by my Grandmother, Mary Elizabeth (Conner) Haynor (1868-1951). There is no evidence that I know of that John was born on 3 March. If there is, please bring it forward. John died in the fall of 1797 in Ulster County, NY, according to probate records. His will, lists his second wife Hannah Denn as well as all his children. I have both his probate records and his will. During that time period, there were at least 4 persons named John Conner/Connor who lived in Ulster and Orange Counties.

(Part 1 of 3) The Conner name has a long history in British Isles, but now DNA and some recorded history says their origin is from the Emerald Island. The Conner story [dominated by DNA tribal marker R1b-L513, Subgroup B2] can trace their origins to the Finn Valley in Donegal, Ireland from 50 BCE. Perhaps the journey begins with the Clanna Dedad; Deda, son of Sen or Deda Mac Sin. The Conner surname origin is from Clan Domnaill [DNA Tribe R1b-L513, Subgroup B1] and relations who remain in Ireland take the modern surname (Oโ)Donnelly, McDonald and Donohue in Ireland.

(Part 2 of 3) According to research, the Domnaill name is also found in Brittany, France. It is a very old name which appears in the 5th century Roman inscriptions as Dumnovellaunos in Brittany meaning โDeep Valourโ equivalent to Irish Domhnaill. But how could this be? Recent discoveries from DNA testing are unlocking the migration patterns of Celtic tribes as late as 800 CE to 1200 CE. The Conner story begins in pre-history Ireland then members of his family move to Wales where the family can be traced back to their Welsh tribe Cydifor Fawr. Many of his kin will then move to Brittany, France during the Dark Ages.

(Part 3 of 3) Discover their newly found untold story and how forgotten texts bring their story back to life. From the ebook, โThe Tribe Withinโ learn how DNA unfolds this amazing tale and if you look in the right places, how history narrates this evidence. There is another written account of their story, but it is camouflaged in smoke and myth โ it will become the tales of King Arthur.
