John Conner (possibly Connor) BIRTH 3 MAR 1741 • Eastel, Castlepollard, Westmeath, Ireland. DEATH 28 MAR 1813 • Scotchtown, Orange County, New York. It’s believed that John Conner was a soldier in America’s Revolutionary War. He married Margaret McCutchens, abt. 1762 in Ireland. They had 2 children named Charles Connor b. 14 March 1763 and Robert Connor b. 13 November 1765. Margaret died before 1767, before John came to America. What became of Charles and Robert Conner is unknown, but if they came to America with their father, they would have been very young; four and two years old respectively. He came to America in 1767 and was a farmer. He married, June 12, 1767, Hannah Denn, daughter of William and Phebe Denn, born Orange County, New York, April 25, 1750, died August 25, 1829. From the Genealogical and family history of southern New York and the Hudson River Valley: a record of the achievements of her people in the making of a commonwealth and the building of a nation, by Cuyer Reynolds, published in 1914, says on page 991, “John Conner, the first member of this family (in America), was born at Castle Pollard, county of West Meath, Ireland, in 1741, and died in Orange County, New York, in August, 1813.”

John Conner/Connor was likely born in 1741 at Castlepollard, County of Westmeath, Ireland, as written in an undated letter by my Grandmother, Mary Elizabeth (Conner) Haynor (1868-1951). There is no evidence that I know of that John was born on 3 March. If there is, please bring it forward. John died in the fall of 1797 in Ulster County, NY, according to probate records. His will, lists his second wife Hannah Denn as well as all his children. I have both his probate records and his will. During that time period, there were at least 4 persons named John Conner/Connor who lived in Ulster and Orange Counties.
